November 2008

A warm welcome to the Laziali nel Mondo Newsletter First of all, we would like to thank all of you for your interest in and support of an association that wants to keep the beautiful Italian heritage alive. Whether you are Italian, or someone who loves everything about Italy, this LNM association welcomes you with open arms. Your participation in our events means a lot and we hope that, if you are not yet a member, you soon will be for we want to do everything that we can to meet your interests and needs.

This newsletter is to keep you updated on our events and activities. In this letter we will review the year’s events to date and inform you of the activities to look forward to!

The Year’s Events in Review:

November: A Toast to Italy featured an exclusive dinner experience prepared by Chef Enzo Mantova from Posta Fibreno, Italy.

February: Our successful New Year started with our annual Carnevale held at the Glen Sander’s Restaurant, featuring the Good Times band.  Everyone had a fantastic time and you can view pictures of this spectacular event on our website.

March: Laziali nel Mondo at the Opera:  Puccini’s La Tosca at Proctors. Quite an extraordinary performance!

March:  A bus trip was organized for us to see the Greco-Roman exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. This was a wonderful trip and, due to popular demand, we may go there again this year. There is just so much to see at this museum! The Italian art exhibits alone are incredible!!

July and August: we had a tremendous enrollment of over 86 students for our highly successful Italian Language Summer Camp for Children. Students enjoyed learning Italian and doing cultural activities.

August we had our Annual Picnic which featured a pig-roast that was free for our members in appreciation for all of their support. The picnic was held at Grafton Park, Troy, NY and we had a terrific turnout! There were games for children and a bocce tournament that contestants were quite serious about winning!

November 9th 2008: we went on a Bus trip to the Magnanini Winery and Restaurant in Wallkill, NY.  This was sold out immediately! The wines, 6 course meal and entertainment by the Carozza Brothers were absolutely wonderful! We all must still be full from the delicious food that we ate!

December 7th 2008: Our annual Children's Italian Christmas Party was held at the Rexford Firehouse, Rexford, NY. To the children's delight, a special visit was made by Santa Claus and La Befana! Santa and La Befana were thrilled to find cookies, pizza, salad, beverages and snacks (the snacks and beverages were donated by Price Chopper) for everyone to enjoy. A special thanks to our DJ Bob and to all the wonderful Laziali nel Mondo elves that helped organize and make the event a success.

EVENTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO:

February 21st 2008: Annual Carnevale at the Mohawk River Country Club and Chateau, featuring the Good Times Band.

August, 2009: Annual Picnic at Grafton Park.

September 27th 2009 Mediterranean Cruise: Itinerary: Civitavecchia, Savona, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Tunis, Valletta, Palermo, Civitavecchia.

We look forward to seeing you at these events and sharing our love of a language and culture that has enchanted millions of people.

For information on all of the above future events, please check our website for details: www.lazialinelmondo.com

Speaking of our website, we are excited to offer you three new features! Every month, Maurizio De Pillis, a private instructor of Italian and a journalist for cooking magazines, will be presenting the following: 1. L’Italiano  … a monthly review of Italian grammar. 2.  Vino e Cucina … a recipe of the month from different regions of Italy.  3. Roma Oggi … a monthly article on areas and events in Roma!

Talk a look also at our newly revised Links section. Several new additions to note include our Italian Word of the Day and our member Kathy Moehler’s interactive Italian language section.

In addition, check our Italian Heritage Cookbook section of our website.  As a fund raiser, we are gathering authentic Italian recipes that will be showcased in a cookbook that will be a tribute to all of those who lovingly taught us to cook Italian!!!

A SPECIAL NOTE: One of the goals of LNM is to encourage the teaching of Italian.  A special note of appreciation goes to the students, administration, faculty, staff and community of Saratoga Springs: due to all of your interest and support, for the first time ever in the history of Saratoga Springs, Conversational Italian is now being taught at the High School!!!!!!

Grazie mille a tutti!
